![]() o2 Planting for the Future Environmental AwarenessGoing Green may be the latest buzz in business today, as every industry seeks to climb on board. The nursery industry has been all about “green” for decades, but it has been slow to take credit for and to promote their involvement and share their contributions. Greenleaf Nursery Company would like to introduce “O2 - Planting for the Future”. More than just a marketing program, it is an eco-friendly movement! It’s a new and unique opportunity to reflect on how we live and to promote more eco-friendly choices that we all could make in our fast-paced, techno-filled lives. Greenleaf hopes O2 will also be used to introduce our children to the calming beauty of nature and to those natural connective fibers that bond us all together. Is it possible that our kids could have hobbies again, like photography, fine arts, creative writing and gardening, or simply taking in all of nature’s wonder and benefits? Perhaps there’s a way to unplug ourselves and our children from at least some of the electronic and artificial clutter currently in our lives. “O2 – Planting for the Future” hopes to raise awareness of our environment using plants to help us all make more eco-friendly choices. Instead using a tree’s timber to build a six-foot high cedar board fence in the backyard, what about planting trees and shrubs to provide the privacy we would like to have? Shouldn’t we stop using plants for construction materials and start planting to meet our needs and improve our lives? It is all about choices.. ![]() Goes Green And just how green is Greenleaf Nursery Company? Greenleaf has a long history of being a good environmental steward. The nursery has had in place an award winning (both State and Federal) water re-cycling program and comprehensive eco-friendly fertilization and insect control management agenda. As early as 1993, our Texas division operated and maintained a recycling system to control runoff and ground water quality. In 1995, our Oklahoma division, consisting of 650 acres, completed its recycling system. These systems, which required millions of dollars of investment, were not mandated, nor were they required by governmental regulations. Greenleaf took on these challenges because it was the right thing to do. Greenleaf Nursery Company believes conserving natural resources is everyone’s responsibility. Because of their environmental awareness and proactive approach, Greenleaf has in the past years, received awards and recognition from organizations, such as, the U.S. EPA’s “Environmental Excellence and Pollution Prevention Award”, the Sierra Club’s “Earth Care Award”, and a recipient of the Southern Nursery Associations “Environmental Leadership Award”. Work continues at all locations to recycle plastics and other materials whenever possible and to maintain an environmental awareness of the land. As technology changes and new opportunities arise that can reduce our carbon footprint, Greenleaf Nursery Company will, as it has in the past, accept new challenges and work to improve its environmental impact by recycling materials and resources, cutting our energy use and by promoting and growing O2 producing plants for the future. Because, it’s the right thing to do. |
